Sam Mugavero, Ph. D. – Owner/Coach

(sam@smugsfitness.com)

A two-sport athlete in college, Sam continued to foster his passion for fitness while working on his doctorate at the University of South Carolina. After completing his degree in 2007, he moved to Atlanta with his wife and spent 5 years teaching science and coaching tennis while spending his early mornings and evenings instructing fitness and strength training. While a teacher, Sam started an employee fitness program for faculty and staff at Woodward Academy and simultaneously formed the Smugs Fitness Outdoor Fitness Program in Barrett Park (College Park, GA).

Sam has since opened the Smugs Fitness Lab in the Historic Kirkwood Neighborhood and works with individuals and small groups to achieve their health and fitness goals. Sam's coaching provides people with the tools they need to move, feel and look their best! In addition to personal training and small groups, Sam has works with companies large and small to help them develop and maintain corporate wellness programs for their employees.

When not in the Smugs Fitness Lab, Sam drinks coffee (a lot of coffee) and spends time with his wife (Kristy) and daughters (Lilly and Clara).

JoAnna Rogers, Coach

(joanna@smugsfitness.com)

Having never lifted a weight in her life, JoAnna walked into a kettlebell class in early 2016 and was immediately captivated by the technical movements and efficient workout. She spent the next year studying kettlebell technique, all the while building strength and confidence in herself. In early 2017, she completed the StrongFirst kettlebell certification. As a coach, JoAnna now helps others find the same confidence and empowerment that she has found through kettlebells and strength training.

Outside of the gym, you will find JoAnna spending time with her husband and two dogs, most likely on the front porch of their home in Kirkwood.

Lauren Jensen, Coach

Lauren has been a Personal Trainer since 2004.  Her passion for health and fitness developed after gaining the "freshman 15" and then some. Her desire to get in shape grew into a desire to help others do the same.  After attending college in Florida, she moved around the country living in California, Washington DC, Boston and eventually laying roots in Atlanta.  She loves meeting and getting to know new people.  Over the years her training style has evolved from predominately cardio based workouts to more strength based training.  She has noticed a huge difference in the success of her clients.  The reason for the change was simply continuing education.  She wants to be able to provide the best service for her clients and make sure they got the results they want.  She has been very lucky to have worked with some of best and brightest in the fitness field.

Lauren enjoys working with all different demographics, but especially enjoys working with women.  Many women tend to shy away from weights, so it is very important to her to teach them the many benefits of proper resistance training.  She encourages everyone to think about more than just the aesthetic benefits and to focus on their improved daily lives.
